We develop the potential of our more than 9,700 employees to bring the best of Mexico to the world, and the best of the world to Mexicans.
We have a diversified workforce comprised of 57% men and 43% women.
At year-end, our workforce was comprised as follows:
Year | Gender | Permanent | Temporary | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|
2018 | Men | 4,712 | 853 | 5,565 |
2018 | Women | 3,604 | 593 | 4,197 |
TOTAL | 9,762 |
In accordance with our commitment to gender equality, and aligned with the 5th Sustainable Development Goal, we calculate the ratio of base salary for women to men, which allows us to focus our efforts on closing the salary gap.
Mexico has gender pay gap of 34.2%, while at Grupo Herdez, the average does not exceed 6%.
Job Category | Ratio of Base Salary for Women to Men |
---|---|
Operational | 78% |
Operational-Regulatory | 99% |
Tactical | 93% |
Strategic | 105% |
We respect the right to collective bargaining, and of the 9,762 employees, 38% are part of a collective agreement, the same percentage as the previous year.
In 2018, our training budget was 15 million pesos, allowing us to teach a total of 158,058 hours, for an average of 16 hours per employee.
Likewise, 22% of our full-time, non-unionized employees were evaluated for their work performance.
The performance and growth of our employees is evaluated at least once a year using different methodologies. These include 9-Box management by objectives, quarterly or four-month evaluations, and 360-degree feedback.
In terms of unionized personnel, they are evaluated each month based on the production indices for the plant or distribution center where each employee works.
Since 2012, the Environmental Control, Health and Safety Department (CASH) has been responsible for safeguarding the integrity and well-being of our operational personnel, preventing and mitigating incidents that could affect the environment, and maintaining a culture of safety and risk prevention, thereby guaranteeing the continuity of our operations.
In 2018, we reduced our accident rate by 19% and reduced the lost work days rate by 22%.
The main process for identifying occupational hazards and risk evaluation is through the Comprehensive Environmental Control, Health and Safety Management System (SAI CASH). This internal system is based on adherence to regulatory monitoring, including preventive observation.
Likewise, based on unsafe conditions that are identified at the job site, we establish an annual program with general and special exams.
The Healthy Eating program provides nutritional consulting for our employees through healthy eating plans and follow-up in monthly visits.
Currently, the program is operating in three locations: San Luis Potosí, Los Mochis and Mexico City.
There were 2,881 nutritional appointments in 2018, resulting in a combined weight loss of 1,507 kg among our employees in Mexico City, San Luis Potosí, the State of Mexico, and the State of Sinaloa.
Grupo Herdez is committed to improving workplace conditions for women with a mechanism to promote gender equality that also results in higher yield and lower absenteeism among our female employees.
In Mexico, only 1 in 10 women is able to exercise her right to lactation. That is why we inaugurated our first lactation rooms, a space for our female employees to pump and store their milk, which they can later bring to their babies.
In February 2019, we finished installing the first three lactation rooms at our corporate offices, which are now fully operational. The project calls for the installation of at least 10 additional lactation rooms, nine of which will be at our plants.
Our lactation rooms comply with the specifications issued by the Mexican Institute for Social Security and UNICEF. They are hygienic, private spaces that are easily accessible and are equipped to be used by one person at a time.
Gender equality is an essential part of our sustainability policy, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. For more information, please see our Sustainability Strategy.
We have a Code of Ethics in place and, since 2013, a Gender Equity Policy. Both are available for consultation at https://grupoherdez.com.mx/sustentabilidad/codigos-y-politicas/
In 2018, as part of our cultural promotion program, Grupo Herdez expanded our #SomosSaludables [#WeAreHealthy] program. The main purpose is to improve health habits and promote activity, with three main themes:
• I Get Active
• I prevent
• I Take Care of Myself
In 2018, we partnered with Mexicanos Activos, a non-profit organization that promotes physical activity. The goal is to raise awareness among our employees about the importance of physical activity and to change their current behavior patterns.
We started the program with a medical check-up for our employees at two of our plants and three corporate offices, with 24% of our workforce participating.
We also carried out the following activities:
• “10,000 steps: Get Active” Challenge, with 232 participants
• Vaccination campaigns, with a total of 150 vaccines applied
• Invitation to our employees to four races
• We organized three soccer tournaments (Plants and Corporate Offices)
